Biography
I am originally from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. While there I was very active in dance and drama. I earned my degree in Dance and Theatre at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. While there I worked in several musicals for a professional summer company. I also studied abroad in London, England during the fall of 2001. After my graduation in 2003, I returned to Michigan and earned my certification in teaching secondary English and History at Northern Michigan University. I also taught dance for two years in a local studio in Marquette, Michigan. In April, 2011, I completed my Master's in Education degree to be a Reading Specialist, K-12 at Northern Michigan University. My course work was entirely online, which allowed me to work as I completed my degree.
I live in Auburn Alabama, where I met my husband, Kerry McGinnis. We were married in June of 2011. Mr. McGinnis spent 4 years in the U.S. Navy, and 2 years in
the Army. He is also a local entrepreneur, and a member of Opelika's 20 Under 40, Class of 2016-2017. My parents live farther north, but we do see them often, which is a blessing. We are also blessed to have my husband's family live in Opelika. Our first child, a beautiful daughter, was born in October of 2017.
I am currently active in dance at Nix Dance Studios in Auburn, Alabama. I have danced there since the fall of 2009, performing in the recital each spring. The dance styles I have performed in the past are tap, ballet, jazz, and contemporary. I currently practice and perform tap.
Additionally I am member of Junior League of Lee County, completing charitable work that benefits children and women of Lee County. With Junior League I specifically focus on the education and training of my fellow League members. I am the chair of the education and training committee for the 2020-2021 League year. I have also been active in church. I have been involved at St. Dunstan's, the Episcopal Church at Auburn University. I served on the Advisory Council and as a Session Staff Counselor at Camp McDowell for the Sophomore Session (8th and 9th graders) with Father Wells Warren for 2 years. I sang in the choir for several years, and Father Wells performed the ceremony for our wedding. We have also attended Lakeview Baptist Church in Auburn.
